“An all-new standalone hate-to-love, arranged marriage romance with a TWIST from Lylah James.”

“Once upon a time…”

Hate consumed him.
Love wrecked me.
That night changed both our lives, turning our beginning into something toxic. We were poison together and there was no antidote.

Our story began like any other fairy tale ended.
With a beautiful wedding.
One kiss.
Two rings.
Three vows.
Killian Spencer became my lawfully wedded husband and I, his dutiful wife.

But he was no Prince Charming. He didn’t come to save me… and he vowed there would be no happily ever after.
And me?

Just like the legends I’d read as a little girl, I always thought I’d be the princess in my fairy tale.
Well, I was the villain of our love story.

“Till death do us part…”

My Rating: ★★ ⋆

If you’ve read Tainted Hearts series you will know that Lylah is the shit, so its with a heavy heart that I have to writing this review. I don’t normally bother with reviewing books that I can’t give 3* and above, but I am so annoyed and disappointed I feel like I should review it if not to purge myself of it. So please not that this review may contain spoilers…

I quite enjoy an arrange marriage trope and I was excited by the idea that it wasn’t for the benefit of two mafia families for a change. Killian Spencer is the son of the former USA president. He is betrothed to Gracelynn Romano, who unfortunately dies in a car accident before she makes it to the isle. Her sister Julianna was driving the car, so she is riddles with guilt and decides that to atone for her “sin”, she must give up her happiness to the point of being a pushover and Killian’s doormat. She has to take her sisters place in the marriage to Killian who is determined to kill her a slow and painful death as revenge for killing Gracelynn. Little does he know that Julianna is keeping a big secret from him.

I get she wore a veil and hid her face from everyone, but are you telling me that Julianna and Grace were so similar that the man who claimed to love her wouldn’t recognise her? I do not know, but I can spot my husband with my eyes practically closed. And why the hell did she feel the need to hide her existence from Killian? If she was planning on telling him the truth before Grace died, why didn’t she just tell him the truth after death instead of killing them slowly for 3 years? I thought the atonement thing was bullshit.

Also, this was an arranged marriage and I got what the Romano will be getting being affiliated with the former president’s family. But what the hell were the Spencer’s getting out of the deal? Especially as it turns out, they didn’t even know how Romano made his money.

I don’t know. Lylah is a fantastic writer, and her Tainted Hearts series is my absolute favourite. Her stories and compelling and keep you glued to your kindle. This one, however,
