I was born into luxury and used to getting what I wanted.
What I desired most, with my life in disarray, was the man who sat across from me.
He was tall, dark and handsome, but, most notably, forbidden.
It made every accidental touch more sinful and every session more addictive.
There was so much tragedy and he was supposed to fix me.
I shouldn’t have wondered how it would feel to be trapped under his broad shoulders.
I shouldn’t have focused on the way he licked his bottom lip every time his gaze dropped from mine and roamed my curves.
I shouldn’t have dreamed about him breaking the rules to comfort me the way I desperately needed.
I did though, and I was the first one to break.
He was my protector and my confidant and then he became my lover.
I teased him, tempted the two of us and now there’s no way to take it back.
With everything I’ve been through, I didn’t expect to fall for him.
There’s only so much heartache I can take.
This is book 2 in the Love The Way You series. Book 1, Kiss Me, must be read first.
Series: Love The Way #2
My Rating: ★★★★
We pick up where we left of with “Love the Way you Kiss me”. What started off as contractual obligation quickly into something forbidden. Plagued by the weight of their past, they strive together to try to make it to the other side. Will they make it, or will their individual baggage prove to be too big to overcome?
Ella had a lot of secrets in book one but in this book, we see some of those questions answered and secrets revealed. I found her to be a difficult character to decide whether I loved or disliked her because while I was rooting for her and Zander, I found myself wondering if she indeed was looking to get out from under the weight of her grief. One minute she was upset and insecure about her position in Zander’s life, the next she was melancholy over James. I mean its to be expected, but she didn’t seem to be trying very hard to move on. Or maybe it’s just me.
Zander secret is also revealed. While he struggles with his guilt over what he didn’t or didn’t do, going back and forth on what he could or should have done, he can’t deny his attraction to Ella. He decides to fight for her in a way he’s never fought for anyone. Zander seemed to be more certain over what he wanted with Ella or maybe in a better position to want something with her than she seemed to be.
I have to say I loved the difficult topics that this story dealt with. Mental health is a serious issue and the fact that the characters are typical of what society expect to have their shit together, a beautiful socialite with more money than a small country and a hard ex-marine, it made it that much better. I was however, not sold on the romance between these two very broken and depressed people. They could have communicated better I thought, though I shouldn’t be surprised considering the premise of their initial agreement. Neither of them seemed to have sufficient strength to pull the other along into a substantial relationship.
I however, enjoyed this book much more than I did book one. The story book read and flowed better, it was much more engaging and entertaining. The suspense was amazing, the secrets that are obviously yet to come surrounding Ella’s childhood promise to be fire. While the romance was lacking (in my opinion), the smut was fire.
I look forward thoroughly to book three to see how the story concludes.
