Series:Beauty and the Beast Trilogy #1
My Rating: ★★⋆
We’ve met Leo Morelli in one form or another in the various books in Midnight Dynasty Series by various authors, but I remember him from K Webster’s the Cinderella Trilogy.
Known as the Beast of Bishop Landing, Leo is feared by many and Barbour great hatred for the Constantine family. For more than half his life, his sole purpose was to seek revenge against their family for the hurt they have caused to his family, but especially what the matriarch of the Constantine’s, Caroline has done to him. So, he set his eyes on the least protected, and arguably most gullible of the Constantine’s, Phillip and has him tied up in contractual knots that puts him in a favorable position to exert his revenge.
When Hailey learns what his father has gotten himself into, she sets off to protect him. By so doing, she is forced to sign herself over and make the deal with the devil himself. All her life she’s been taught to hate and fear the Morellis, and the feelings is mutual. So, out of love for her father, the deal is for 30 days as his, to do with as he sees fit, Leo will release her father from her contractual obligation. That’s how she finds herself in his house and bound to him. Fearful as she is, her love for her father outweighs her fear. What neither of them expected, was the sexual chemistry that sizzles between them, much less the emotional attraction associated with it.
To be honest I struggled with this book. Because I read of Leo in the Cinderella trilogy, he wasn’t portrayed as the strong, cruel, and vicious man that this book tried to paint him as. K Webster painted him as weak and whinny and really under his brother’s thumb and control. So, the idea that now I’m to believe he’s this badass in this book, I just couldn’t reconsider the two men as the same person.
The writing style was different. Almost poetic so that that didn’t work for me. The story was fast paced, too fast in fact which I normally love but in this book it fell short because I feel like it tried to cram too much into a short period of time. And the book itself was really short. There was plenty to room for the author to stretch her legs a bit and really flesh it out.
Nonetheless, that cliff-hanger is certainly enough to make me come back to book two and I look forward to it.
