He arrives all dressed in black. Diamond cufflinks. A watch on his tanned wrist that cost more than we would ever see in a lifetime of work. He carries a single red rose for my mother.
Months later, Tiernan Morelli lays red roses on my mother’s grave. That same day, he tells me that he is my new guardian.
I should have known from the very start that he had more in common with the thorns than the rose. Now I know the truth: I’m a pawn in his dangerous game of revenge. I was too young and naive. Now it’s too late to save myself from his clutches.
I belong to him.
Series: Dark Dream #1
You know that feeling when you sign up for an ARC and the book arrives weeks/months later. And when it arrives you start reading it without bothering with the blurb or background check. Somewhere along the line you got it in your head that it’s a standalone. You start reading
And you get to about 50% mark it dawns on you that there is so much deliciousness in this book that there’s no way the last 50% is going to cover anything. So, either it’s a duet/trilogy or the author is going to ruin it by rushing the end. Neither option is good by the way. Anyway, you remain hopeful.
So read. And read some more
Around 80%, you realise
I done fucked up. Because THIS IS NOT A STANDALONE! Then you throw a tantrum the type of which would make a 3 year old weep with envy.
No? just me then? That’s where I am right now. I am so upset that this was not a standalone because I don’t want to wait.
Anyway, I just enjoyed this book so much. I have to say this is the first book based on the Constantine and Morelli feud that I have actually enjoyed. So when I started it I was sceptical. Colour me impressed.
We meet Tiernan Morelli, third son of the Morelli siblings. The neglected and darkest of them all it seems. Banished to the underbelly of his father’s businesses, he harbours great resentment toward his father and his siblings. All he wants is to be accepted, loved or at least respected. So he sets out on a quest to once again try to destroy the family arch enemy, the Constantines. To do that, he gets his paws on Lane’s former mistress and children. When an unexpected turn of events hands them to him on a platter, he jumps at it without question. The last thing he expected was to find the solace, love, acceptance from the very people he set out to destroy.
Bianca Belcante is born to a man with more wealth and power than a small country. When her father unexpectedly dies, he leaves them to a life of squalor. With a mother whose sole purpose in life is to find the next richest man to take care of her, negligent of her and her ailing brother, she is forced to grow up and mother her brother, keep grades up, feed them to make sure to secure a better future. For years now, men and have come and gone from her mother’s bed. She’s hated every one of them, but nothing like the hatred she feels for Tiernan Morelli. Yet she can’t deny her body’s response to him. The man confuses him; blows hot and cold, mean and kind, rough and gentle in the same breadth. Afterall they say there’s a thin line between love and hate. She knows he wants something from her. She knows he’s keeping secrets. But will she be strong enough to withstand when the skeleton finally come tumbling out of the closets?
I loved everything about this book. It started off a bit slow, but it more than made up for it. I loved the forbidden-ness of it. The angst, the passion between the characters. I love it when a big bad man falls prey to the charms of an itsy bitsy woman.
Anyway, to summarise
There are so many secrets in the Morelli family surrounding Tiernan’s birth. So many secrets and I cant wait for some answers.
