Secretly dating Coach Parker’s daughter was never part of the plan. Neither was becoming her dealer…

Returning to my drug-dealing past wasn’t on the agenda when I accepted the full ride to play ball at Cypress U. But Mom lost her job. And my sister’s medical bills are mounting. So, I’ve no choice but to change the playbook.

When Emily walks into my life, like a fallen goddess with the ultimate power to destroy me, I know I’m screwed. I should steer clear, but I’m the one supplying her poison of choice. Falling for her is a complication I don’t need, but the more she’s around, the harder it gets to walk away. She needs me, and I crave her more than the sport I love.

Now, it’s all on the line. Including the NFL career that’s tantalizingly close.

The stakes are high, but family means everything, so I’ll take my chances.

It’s only a problem if it’s out of control. And I have it in hand.

Except a certain a-hole discovers I’m using again, and he threatens to rat me out to my folks. Mom’s president of Cypress U, and Dad’s the illustrious football coach. Appearances mean everything to them, and I’m a continuous disappointment. They told me I’d be out on my ass if I fell off the wagon, so keeping it a secret is my number one priority.

Until the super-hot all-star QB takes more than a passing interest in me. Adam gets me, in a way no guy ever has, filling my head with ideas of forever—and now, I want more.

Dating my dealer is a recipe for disaster, especially when it’s forbidden, but I can’t help myself.

Because I’ve fallen too deep.

And the hole is too large to crawl out of.

“My knight and shining armor.”

I’m always on the lookout for a book that is both well written and romantic. One that touches the deep level of my feels as it is unsettling, one that has me screaming at the characters with frustration while “oohing and awwing” at the same time. So when I stumble upon one that ticks all these boxes, I get all mushy inside. Although I am a first time reader of Ms Alexandra, I am very familiar with Ms Davis, so I knew I was in for some deliciousness when started this book. Equal parts swoony and heart-breaking. A well written story of family commitment, heart-breaking experiences, betrayal, redemption and happily ever after.

“Emily Parker has gotten under my skin, and I like feeling her there. “

We meet Adam Miller; the best son a mother could ask for and the best big brother ever, college football quarterback with his sights set on a future with the NFL. When Adam learn of his mother’s loss of a job, he takes matters into his own hands in order to provide for his mother and sister, feeling left with no choice when his sisters medical needs take center stage. He’s strong-headedness and fiercely loyal. So when out on one of his business ventures, he makes acquaintances with a girl that for all intents and purposes should be off limits to him: coach’s daughter and a whole lot of problems. But the heart what the heart wants as the say. Let me just say, as a mother, I can’t fathom a scenario where I knowingly let my son do the shit that Adam was doing. I mean I get it, desperate time and all that but

“I’ve never considered too far into the future, because I never truly believed I had one worth daydreaming over. But then I met you, and now I see endless possibilities.”

When Emily Parker experiences one of the most devastating events a woman could over suffer, it changes the course of her life entirely and she resorts to drastic and self-destructive means to make it through the day. Her life is study, party, sex, drugs and repeat. With parents that are so engrossed in their careers and a mother who resents her for living, Emily is free to embark on this journey of self-destruction with no interference. But in pursuit of her jollies, she crosses paths with Adam; who finally gives her a sense of self-worth and belonging. Could he be the saviour she’s been looking for without even knowing?

Despite the fact that the story focuses on the romance between Emily and Adam, it also delves deep in to some dark territory leaving you guessing to the end what the hell happened to Emily to set her into this path. I absolutely loved Adam. He is the kind of guy I’d want my daughter to bring home; despite his questionable business dealing, (although I get why). I was however Left wanting a bit for some detail on some characters that played an important role in the story line. E.g. I would have loved a bit more detail with regards to Wes after the police got involved, what became of Zach and Scarlett etc. the end seemed to pick up pace a bit; the mother’s disappearance, Adams’s confession etc. I wish the authors had taken their time giving us a bit more detail around that.

Can I just say there were some questionable parenting skills in this book? Between Adam’s mom and Emily’s I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Speaking of the bitch that is President Parker; what the fuck? I would have loved to know why she felt the way she did about Emily. Who does that? She ran away with the man who did all that shit to her little girl?

“I wish I could agree. But you need to be your own knight. You need to save yourself. I’m just here to catch you if you fall.”
