To build a future with a homicide detective, a cartel slave will have to face her worst nightmares and biggest fears.
To save her life and claim her heart, he will risk everything…
The last thing Detective Octavio Hernandez expects to find at the scene of a mass gang-related shooting is a brown-eyed angel standing bravely in the midst of the chaos. One look at Faith Donovan and the homicide detective knows there’s more to her than meets the eye. She’s keeping secrets that just might help bring down Los Zetas, one of the biggest drug cartels in Los Angeles.
He just has to convince her that trusting him is worth the risk.
Forced upon a mother who didn’t want her and enslaved by a gang that refuses to let her go without a fight, Faith’s life has never been her own. She thought she’d made peace with her fate…until Octavio sweeps in and carries her out of her blood-soaked cage.
Faith trusts no one, but the hardened detective makes it difficult to remember why. The way he cares for her makes her ache for what she never thought she’d find: love and a family of her own. But trusting him when she knows he has an ulterior motive is one of the most difficult things she’ll ever do.
He swore to give her the freedom she craves, but when the secrets she holds paint a target on her back, keeping that promise will prove no easy feat.
To secure her freedom and win her heart, this detective will move mountains. And take down anyone standing in his way.

Series: A Warrior for Her #2
My goal this year has been to read as many new-to-me authors as a I can. I must admit I’m doing a piss poor job of it. Primary because often the hype of the blurb doesn’t actually live up to the book, so I find that I’m getting more and more reluctant. So, I go for the “safe” authors. Having said that, am I glad to have across this book. Absolutely blew my mind away.
We meet Detective Octavio Hernandez gang violence; one gang in particular that he believes are responsible for the disappearance of his sister. As fate would have it, there’s a gang shoot-out at a local bar where this gang hangs out. There she meets a young girl who, it turns out will be the key to defeating this gang afterall.
Faith Donovan has seen more horrendous than anyone should have in her young 21 years of life. Born a mother who wants nothing to do with her, having lived a charmed life in the care of her dad until his sudden death at 6 years old, she moved back to live with her mom, who makes no secret that she wants northing to do with her. When she suddenly finds herself enslaved to this cartel affiliated gang, all she wants is freedom and Octavio may just be the way out.
When she’s taken into custody under protection of Octavio, their relationship quickly moves from detective-witness to something much more intimate.
I love Faith’s strength. Though she’s scared out of her mind, has no reason to trust anyone, she has no qualms in doing the right thing, even at her own expense. And Octavio has decided to protect her with his life, at the risk of his job if necessary. Whatever happens, its clear, he’s not loosing her.
I loved the fast pace of the book. There was a fine balance between giving too much details that the story becomes long-winded and not enough details that you’re left wanting. Normally, I love the gory details. If you’re going to lay out a sex scene I want as much detail of that shit as you can get (not too much), but I found that in this story everything was adequately layout without missing a beat.
This was book 2 of the series so I will be definitely going back to book one and awaiting Roman’s book with baited breath.
